Almost there! Final action in Lubmin..

Lovis turned into a nuclear waste transport ship bringing atomic waste from Stockholm to Lubmin. Afterwards it turned into an energy-turn-boat with all of us forming our statements with the colourful t-shirts we prepared on the trip: Switch off nuclear power! Turn to renewable energy! Check out the new press release (in German) and pictures!

Anchoring in the middle of nowhere

We spent the night on the sea just in front of the southeastern shore of the island of Rügen. We arrived to the Greifswalder Bodden, our final destination is close and we will now take some more time to do networking and to discuss and exchange..We have an ambitious plan filled with different workshops e.g. on the nuclear spiral from uranium mining to atomic waste storage, on different forms of direct political action or on the world situation concerning nuclear power after Fukushima. The first evening discussion on decentral energy supply in a solidary anti-capitalist economy is running already now.. we are looking forward of a whole day full of planning and discussing in the peaceful atmosphere of the lovely little harbour of Gager on Rügen, where we will stay for 2 nights and take a break from sailing!

Guten Abend, Deutschland!

About 36 hours ago we left Sweden in Kalmar and arrived in Sassnitz, Germany at midnight. We had a lot of wind from SW, so we unfortunately had to motor for quite some time.  We travelled in a watch system with 3 groups, which meant every 8 hours we had a 4 hour watch. It made it a bit complicate to communicate in the whole group regularely. We though had some workshops concerning the nuclear spiral from the digged out uranium to the nuke and its dangers. In the watches we learned how to navigate a sailing vessel over the open sea and to stear the boat after the stars. Many people were seasick due to the big waves we had to climb on our way to the German coast.
Amazing what strength lies in them and in the wind. As easy as it can take our big vessel over the sea, the impossible it can make it to get anywhere against it.
A power which has been used by humans for hundreds of years. I think of the last old windmills which are left in Germany being part of our cultural landscape.
Most of them are rotten away and gone. The rest is protected because of its historical and cultural value. I think of the modern windmills today which produce the power we need and the potential we have with that. Some people might do not like them standing around in the landscape. For me they always impress me again and calm me down watching them. And even if we want to take them down sometime if there are other solutions it will be possible quite easily and nothing much would remain of them.
What is this compared to the nuclear heritage we already created with using nuclear power so far?

Goodbye Sweden – Hello Baltic Sea!

The winds from west are getting stronger and after a sunny day in Kalmar with a nice street action in the morning we have to leave Sweden to cross the Baltic Sea as fast as possible. We will sail the day and night through for probably the next 40 hours to reach the German coast before the winds get too strong and the waves too high.

…so no more actions in Sweden, but hopefully more time for exchange and networking within the new GoNetAct-crew. Many new people being active in different projects and groups are onboard – a lot to learn and to find out and a huge potential to create ideas for joint activities. So there are many things to discuss and to prepare: our common projects for the future, needs of action in different countries or our upcoming actions in Germany in the second half of the week… Check the blog for the results and new announcements – we will let you know once we reach the German coast and get connected to the internet again!

Direction Kalmar! Klar zur Wende, Re!

Everything new – the second group of our GoNetAct-Tour is now complete with new participants from Germany, Lithuania, Poland and Russia, the wind is back and we can sail properly, we did our first real maneuver (a real tack!) and it seems like we have to change our plans.. We are expecting strong westerly winds and will probably leave Sweden earlier than we planned.

But first we will bring our message to Kalmar, meet a Japanese Fukushima refugee on Skype to discuss about the situation after the catastrophy in his home country and plan our action in the city centre for Monday morning!

Where to leave the highly radioactive waste of nuclear power plants?

…from which any living thing needs to be protected for more than 100 000 years?

In Finland the first permanent underground storage place for atomic waste was defined. The documentary “Into Eternity” takes you into the huge system of underground tunnels in solid rock and explains the enormous risks of atomic waste and the necessary security conditions which are actually impossible to provide…

Right now this documentary is shown on the Mizzen Sail of our boat “Lovis” in the harbour of Oskarshamn. Have a look at the website of the movie by Michael Madsen to get more information and watch the trailer!

Goodbye and welcome onboard!

Today in Oskarsham is a special day. Some people of our GoNetAct-team leave the boat and go home, some new people come to spend another week on “Lovis” with us. The ugly weather in the morning changed and we had a sunny, beautiful day. It allowed us to perform a street theater and invite the people of Oskarsham to our “Open Ship” in the afternoon and to a presentation of Falk Beyer on the topic of the nuclear waste disposal disaster in Germany. Tomorrow we will set sails again with new people and new energy in direction of Kalmar!
